You may be checking the mailbox for weeks. Many first time home buyers use a federal tax refund to help with the down-payment for their new home. If you have plans to do the same this year be prepared to wait a while. The IRS hasn’t let us know when they will start processing returns yet thanks to our Congressional Leaders who allowed us to walk the edge of the fiscal cliff. As this Forbes article states, tax refunds will be delayed this year. So keep house hunting with your REALTOR, but plan to file your returns electronically this year, and earlier than ever, so you will be ahead of the pack. Good luck and happy hunting!
